JLMSim: Release Notes

We may release new versions of the JLM Simulator over time. This page tracks the changes to the Simulator with release dates and a brief note describing each enhancement. Only the latest JLM Simulator program will be available for download. You can identify which version is currently installed by looking at the version number on the JLM Simulator output file names. Whenever we release a new version, we will automatically alert all registered users by email (unless the user has opted to be excluded from our JLM Simulator distribution list). To be added to the distribution list, send your contact information to the email address at the bottom of this page.

M23 April 11,2005 Original Release
M23a June 30,2005

It is not possible to short against the box in M23 or M23a, since only one number is stored for each investor-security combination to indicate a long (+) or short(-) position. Upon reoptimization, a simulated investor may seek to go from a long holding to a short position in a given security. In this case, the investor and its trader are supposed to liquidate the long position first, then sell short, subject to the uptick rule (unless this has been deactivated by the user). We noticed that with M23, in rare cases, a short sale of a security took place before the investor's trader had liquidated the long position. This has been corrected in M23a.

As far as we can see, M23a comes to the same qualitative conclusions as M23, but specific run outputs can differ between the two versions. The difference is similar to running a case with different initial random seeds
